Get to Know Bryce Chapman
Q: How did you push past fear when building your business?
A: I honestly forced myself. But I would be lying if I said I didn’t have the influence of a good friend of mine who is business savvy yet encouraging.
Q: For someone starting out on their photography journey what advice would you have for them?
A: I would have to say: EXPERIMENT. Find out what it is you truly love to shoot. It may take a while since there are so many genres of photography, but I believe once you lock in on what you love and hone your skills, there is nobody who can stop you.
Q: Do you regret any decisions you have made in your business?
A: I don’t look at what I am about to say as a regret but more of a learning experience. With that being said, I wish I had contracts in place early on in my business. They are extremely important!
Q: What fellow artists in the industry do you gain the most inspiration from?
A: There are too many to name. I could sit here forever talking about those who inspire me. There are some who I know personally and some who I have never met. To name a few:
Dana Scruggs
Kareem Black
Carlos Serrao
F Scott Schafer
Sante D’Orazio
Frank Ockenfels
Sue Bryce (duh)
Clifton Prescod
Dallas and Dae ( Dallas Logan and Dae Howerton )
Kremer Johnson ( Neil Kremer and Cory Johnson )
Art Streiber
Kate Woodman
Itaysha Jordan
Marcus Smith
Taylor Brumfield
Naska Demini
Anthony Geathers
Tim Tadder
Derek Heisler
Jill Greenberg
Gavin Oneill
Miller Mobley
Lindsay Adler
Philip Lorca DiCorcia
I kid you not, every single one of these photographers inspire me like no other. And to think…I had to cull this list. And also, this list is in NO particular order.
Q: Everyone has a favorite shoot – tell us about yours and why it’s your favorite.
A: Ok, this was a tough one to answer. However, I would probably say my favorite shoot was with Miss Sadie. She’s an older woman who I have photographed multiple times both digitally and on film. Every time I photograph her, it’s always a new experience. So for me to actually pinpoint a favorite time would be impossible. I will say this about each time I photograph her: there is ALWAYS a long, deep conversation, and she always tries to feed me. I guess it’s the southern hospitality.
