We’ve created a handy price calculator to help our members figure out how to price themselves to achieve their financial and work/life balance goals.
Here’s how it works. First, you’ll enter how much money you want to take home in a year and how many shoots you’d like to do each month. Next, you’ll enter all your known expenses, such as how much you pay your hair and makeup person, the cost of your studio rental, software you use, your yearly membership fees (such as your Portrait System Membership), and your estimated tax expenses. There’s also a place for your savings goals, so you can enter how much you want to save each year.
After you fill this all in, the price calculator will total it for you, letting you know how much you actually need to bring in to take home your goal. It also tells you what your average sale must be, and it proposes 3 package prices – a low, a medium, and a high. These numbers are based on the sales averages of real-world photographers and the package prices they use.
After the price calculator has done its thing, you can now go back and adjust what you’ve entered until you feel good about the prices that are being generated. For example, if those package prices feel too high, you can adjust the amount of shoots you’ll do each month to bring down your needed average sale amount. Or, if those package prices feel great, you might like to see how to increase your personal profit.
Figuring out how to set your prices can be a little mind boggling. We hope this price calculator demystifies our members’ business finances and helps them accomplish their goals.
